BEEFALO =  Se on minkä tahansa kesyn lehmän ja amerikan biisonin risteytys.

Beefalo is a species cross between Bison (buffalo) and domestic cattle of any breed. The purpose of the species cross was to blend the outstanding qualities of the Bison with outstanding qualities of the bovine breeds of the world.
Many individuals have tried to cross the Bison and bovine but it was not until the 1960s that a major breakthrough took place. The cross between the Bison and the domestic and exotic beef breeds resulted in the best of both species coming together to produce a superior animal.

The cross between the Bison and beef breeds combined the superior hardiness, foraging ability, calving ease, and meat quality of the Bison with the fertility, milking ability, and ease of handling from the bovine. The cross has also given increased meaning to the term of hybrid vigor. Beefalo animals can be more efficient, which can cut input costs and improve profits.

The basis of the Beefalo program is the fullblood, an animal which is exactly 3/8 Bison and 5/8 bovine. There is no stipulation on the breed used to make up the 5/8 bovine, but any of the beef breeds is generally used.

TEXAS LONGHORN

Kolumbus toi aikoinaan Espanjalaisia lehmiä mukanaan Amerikkaan.

In 1493, Christopher Columbus brought Spanish cattle to Santa Domingo, and within two hundred years their descendents would be grazing the ranges of Mexico.  In 1690, the first herd of cattle, only about 200 head, were driven northward from Mexico to a mission near the Sabine River-a land that would become known as Texas.

SHETLANNIN LEHMÄ

Viikingit toivat Shetlannin saarelle lehmiä ja tämä rotu on sitä alkuperää.

ROMAGNOLA


On sanoottu, että Gootit tulivat Vähä-Aasiasta Rooman seuduille ja toivat nämä lehmät mukanaan.
Geenitutkimus osoittaa että geenistössä on annos Intian lehmän perimää. Ilmeisesti Gootit vaellusretkellään risteyttivät karjaansa Intialaisten lehmien kanssa.

HOLSTEIN

Alun perin Hollannista peräisin oleva rotu 2000 vuoden takaa. Jalostus kulki pitkän tien 1800-luvun loppupuolella Pohjois-Amerikkaan ja pakastespermakauden 1960-luvulla alettua takaisin Euroopan.
On Euroopan  yleisin rotu.

Suomessa 27% on holsteinia nykyisin.  Lehmä painaa keskimäärin noin 650 kg ja sonni 900 kg.

Ankole-Watusi


On risteytys pitkäsarvisen egyptiläisen ja pitkäsarvisen pakistanilaisen zebun kanssa. Antoi pohjan Afrikan lehmäroduille.  Risteytys on laajasti keskiafrikassa jo 2000 v ennen kristusta.


The Ankole-Watusi cattle is an ancient hybrid of long-horned, humpless domestic cattle from Egypt and longhorn Zebu from Pakistan and India.  The mixture of these two breeds produced the Sanga breed which could be found in 2,000 B.C.E. in modern day Sudan, Uganda, Kenya, and other parts of eastern Africa, and became the base stock of many of the indigenous African breeds.
